Look, in today’s game, the first two to three weeks are going to be ugly for all teams. With that being said let’s talk about the good and the bad.
The bad, whatever Dak said or did Jalen Carter has to just let it go and take it out on him during the game. What is more impactful spitting on him and making yourself look like a fool, or sacking him 3 times, getting some hurries, and just being destructive and looking like a beast? He’s needs to be better.
The play calling was ok. Obviously AJ needs more than 1 target. The plays to the outside just weren’t designed well, and the constant running between the tackles just wasn’t there last night. Don’t force it, for a team that expresses that they do what’s given to them, it seemed they were forcing some things that just weren’t there.
Now a lot of people are going to ask or blame Jackson at CB2, but as we know, when the pass rush isn’t there, that makes the CB have to work even harder, and again losing Carter changes your coverage protection and scheme. Although he was chewed up a bit, he wasn’t Bradbury. I trust in Vic in how to get that fixed.
Now the GOOD…
QB1 is QB1. The man stays calm and collected and does whatever needs to be done to win. That first half was all him!! He was efficient, extended plays, and quick with his thought process. A GREAT game by him.
You’ll need to watch the film but Lane Johnson is just a beast. He had an incredible night, which allowed Hurts to scramble as he did.
Campbell was impressive and is just going to get better as he learns Vics defense. Baun was a barn burner with his 20mph speed saving that TD. Imagine if he was able to poke that ball out. You see the last 10 yds of that play he was trying to do so. Just a baller!!
The third part of the game. BOTH kickers did an outstanding job. So efficient with thier kicks! Great job.
I know it wasn’t pretty, but I promise not many games will be this weekend. The play will get better, the schemes will get better, and hopefully the discipline will get better. I believe it will, and this team and that player will make statements on the field going forward.
Learn, grow, win.
