Defense Shines as Eagles Edge Bills: Game Analysis

I wanted to hear what the players said before I wrote this blog. The blog is about the Eagles’ victory over the Bills, 13-12. This win allowed them to reach 11-5 for the year. According to both teams the conditions made it very hard to do any instinctual moves, running, cutting, etc. As we know, the advantage goes to the offense when conditions are like that. They know where they are going.

The advantage to the offense only makes what the Eagles defense did only more impressive. The Eagles defense shut down the Bills. They kept them to only 12 points. They sacked Allen 5 times and forced fumbles. There were countless pressures. Incredible effort and execution on the defensive side of the ball.

Offensively, well I am going to be kind, but that second half was a revolving door at the offensive line. I know Cam Jurgens made the pro-bowl this year. Still, when I watched the replay of the game, he missed several inside blocks. I don’t mean a simple misstep – I mean total whiffs. 26 had a Bills player in his face right away every time he had the ball. Jurgens and Johnson both had really bad games. Now it may have been due to an injury. They couldn’t get their footing because of the earlier injuries. Both of them were hurting the team more than helping, especially in that second half.

Also, Nick kept saying he needed to help more in the second half. I am happy he is taking ownership of the extremely conservative play calling, but he just can’t let that happen.

But let me say this; look at these stats from yesterday.

Tell me if this type of game could go 1 minute without people calling him an average at best QB.

  • lost a fumble for a loss of 27 yards
  • loss 21 yards on a sack that was 3 and 8
  • missed a wide open WR for the 2 pt conversion.

Can you imagine if Hurts did that. He’d be killed. Instead Josh Allen does it – he is being applauded for his determination of putting his team on his shoulders. What a joke.

Then you have Cook who rushed for 70 yards on 20 attempts. ESPN couldn’t stop talking about those tough yards he was able to grind out in those conditions. Barkley had 67 yards on 19 attempts. You see where I am going with this. The Philadelphia Eagles will never be viewed as an elite team. They will win Back to back Superbowl’s this year and it still wont be enough. I don’t know how to change the narrative, I thought winning was the main thing. Oh and don’t even get me started on the lack of calls. Let Mahomes or Allen get hit like Hurts got hit and see if they aren’t called for it.

The NFL has to call it even across the board. Too many games are being won by the refs. These games are not being won by the players’ actions. But that’s another story for a different day.

Getting back to the game, I am not sure why the Bills went for 2 there. I don’t think the play that got them down there was even a catch. It was ruled a catch, so let’s go with that. The Eagles as mentioned couldn’t do anything in the second half. Wouldn’t you go for the PAT and take it into OT. They had a chance to win the division, wouldn’t you take the best route in doing so. That’s on them.

Focusing on the Philadelphia Eagles, I am hearing people saying bench the starters against Washington. Hell no, they have a strong chance in getting the 2 seed. Two home games would be incredible and they have that opportunity. The Lions are the one team that will play 100% against the Bears. They would want nothing more than to bounce them out of the 2 seed.

All in all I truly believe the Eagles are lined up for a strong run this post season. The defense is playing really aggressive, the offense besides this Bills game looked like it was coming around. Its going to very exciting, what do you think…
