Well, we all said the same thing all year. We saw this coming, let’s just be happy it happened now rather than in the NFC Championship game or even worse the Super Bowl. That would have been devastating.
A few things first before we get into the game. I love AJ, I do. But he has to stay after the game and make some kind of comment. He wanted the smoke, and unfortunately, three non-catches would have made a huge difference if he had caught any of them.
One more thing, please keep this in perspective everyone… it’s a game. Kevin Patullo’s wife and children did not loose this game. Please be smart and leave them out of it.
The game
The game was horrible! Lacked tempo, lacked rhythm, lacked consistency. How bad is an offense that they ran several plays over and over on different series. This isn’t two buddies playing Madden, it’s the NFL and it’s embarrassing that the Philadelphia Eagles wasted an entire year. I say its wasted because you had a group of talent players that were unequaled on offense and when you knew it was going sideways you did nothing. You were afraid of the backlash rather than owning it and making the necessary change. That’s on Howie and Nick.
Nick needs someone to challenge him, not a yes man. The offense is just too bland. Everyone knows what’s coming. No misdirection, no slants, no gimmick plays, no anything.
The stats were only there because of how elite the players are. Imagine what the stats would be like if they called plays to the benefit of the player’s skill set. That’s what is needed, someone who knows how to coach players’ skill set and not force them to play to thier offense. Shane and Kellen did that and took the Eagles to the Super Bowl twice. Nick, Brian, and Kevin force players to play their type of offense and you see how bad it looks. They had no identity on offense all year this year and those years.
I truly believe QB1 will get several more Lombardi trophies but not until he gets someone to work with him and coach to his strengths. There are going to be many changes this offseason. I only hope the Philadelphia Eagles can be honest when looking in the mirror and make those tough decisions that are needed to benefit the team.
I will have more in the days to come once my disappointment lessens a little. Just don’t use the runs on 2nd and 3rd downs, getting behind the sticks, poor o-line play, and all the drops and penalties as an excuse tonight. They weren’t beating anyone with all that…
