Analyzing Eagles’ Defeat: Play Calls and Penalties Impact

Update 11.24.2025

8-3 and now the number 2 seed.

My first reaction continues below after this update.

I wanted to add some thoughts to this post. I heard some of the comments from the players and coaches yesterday. I also gathered more today.

How does Saquon state that he has been unnoticeable and say he will get it right. We are going into week 13 and you averaged 2.2 yds per carry yesterday. If you had just played an average game, you probably would have won that game. Was anyone else bothered about Saquon press tour this past off season. He was at every event, every party, etc. Can anyone say Madden Curse on 26?

How does the offensive line say the D was in 5 coverage. As if they have never seen a defense like that in their lifetimes. It was so inventive that Dallas has now figured out the greatest defense known to man. WOW!

I am a Nick Sirianni fan. Nick, are you really risking jobs and a whole season? You refuse to hurt your friend’s feelings. There are worse things in life than “I told you so”. We get it, you wanted your guy, but your guy just doesn’t know how to call a game. He is misusing the talent on your team. EVERY NFL, ESPN, PRIME professional can predict every play you are calling. Yes, you are 8-3. Still, it’s not because of your OC’s play calling. It’s because of a blocked kick, dropped balls, missed tackles, and poor play from your opponents. True leaders realize their mistakes and do what is needed to correct them. They don’t care how it looks or about their egos and images.

I can only hope that you truly learn from this. Please make the necessary changes that should have been done weeks ago. There is so much to loose and so little to gain by you not doing so.

Lastly, acknowledge the noise. You’re only fueling it by ignoring it. Last year there was little noise because you were winning. This year your winning but the noise continues to grow. Attack it head on. Say something like we as a unite know that issues come up throughout a season. We do our best to have everyone on the same page. If we are not on the same page, I make it my responsibility to get us there.

That simple. It makes it more tolerable. It’s better than constantly telling us nothing is wrong when we all see it is. A simple statement like that makes it more personal and understanding. We all have been there.

Yesterdays loss was the mirror image of how this season will look if you don’t fix all this now.

First reaction

14 penalties that just killed drives… Saquon averaging 2.2 yds per carry… CB2 can cost us a Super Bowl.

Look I know that was an extremely emotional game for Dallas with what happened to them earlier this year. I give them credit for continuing the fight for their teammate. Still, if you’re the Philadelphia Eagles you can’t lose a game when you are up 21-0. This game reminded me of the Washington game last year. I feel that in the long run this loss will teach them to correct some things.

What I feel can’t get corrected is 26. I know every time he touches the ball; he spins to his left. I think everyone on earth knows this. He is hitting the holes upright and isn’t letting his blocks set up. You can’t win a game when you can’t control the clock. Tank got 1 touch today…1. Why on earth is our punt returner picking the ball at the one for a return? Why are we throwing a deep out on 3rd and 4? A simple slant most likely gets us a first down. It also gives us a possible FG.

The penalties, OMG the penalties 😫.

This game was from bad play calling, bad coaching, and undisciplined play.

Also did you notice when Dallas starting their comeback they kept throwing to CB2. Even when the rolled Coop to the outside they kept picking on whoever was at that position.  Vic has to stand his ground. He said it himself Coop is a slot corner. One of the best, why move him outside where he is just anybody.

Last year they learned from that Washington loss, let’s see what happens this year.

  1. Here’s your answer to all of the above, Patullo stinks and needs to be relieved of his Offensive duties. The offense is pathetic and a total joke at this point, I don’t care if they are winning games. There WERE winning games cause the defense was keeping them in the games and they were doing just enough to get by but that won’t win in the long run in the playoffs. But now the defense is getting injured cause they are worn down from being on the field too long EVERY game. That happens when you can’t sustain offensive drives. The bend but don’t break philosophy isn’t sustainable. The defense can’t keep winning us games and that’s how we’ve been winning in the 4th quarter when we can’t move the ball.

Patullo didn’t make any adjustments in the game after they were up 21-0. I don’t even think he understands how to make any. When the offense is so simple that teams know what’s coming it’s putting stress on the players to have more penalties IMO. Think about it, if they know we are passing pretty much every down they are just going to blitz us to no end then we are going to be forced to hold and do other dumb stuff when we are tired of the defense not having to guess what’s coming. This is every week now…..

So Saquan has no room to run the ball and when we do give him the ball the defense knows what’s coming anyway cause we don’t disguise anything we are doing weather it’s pass or run. The only play that seems to work and I’m not sure why now is the fake run TE dumb off pass to Goedert but I’m sure teams will pick up on that soon enough.

You can’t put any of this on the defense when you had a turnover fumble in the RedZone and then an INT in the endzone. Both times after that we get the ball back and either go 3 and out or can’t sustain a drive so the tired defense comes right back on the field. If instead we drive down the field and bury them, the defense rests and it also demoralizes the Cowboys even more than they already were getting 2 turnovers when they drove all the way down the field. If anything our offense is plenty rested and needs to come on the field and be ready to move the ball.

Asking for a simple slant right now is ridiculous that Patullo can’t even figure that out. Run some crossing or in/out routes to scheme to get Devonta and AJ open. Instead it seems we only go north/south with posts/corners/comebacks.

Unfortunately the Eagles are hard headed and will say we are 8-3 and everything is fine, when that’s not the case. I think the penalties will keep coming on both sides of the ball with guys getting worn down with bad play calling and injured players out. This team should be unstoppable on both side of the ball because the offense, with all the talent we have, should just drive the ball down teams throats and then a fresh defense should be able to come on the field and do their jobs when rested. Right now it’s the opposite where the defense is saving the shitty offense cause of awful play calling and NOT using any talent we have.

But hey, the rest of the teams in our division stink when they don’t play us, so we got that going for us……

    1. 100% agree with all you said. The sad thing is that everyone knows it, everyone sees it but the Philadelphia Eagles will do nothing about it.
