The Philadelphia Flyers are 2 points away from being in the NHL playoffs for the first time since 2020. TWO POINTS!
Big problem the last two games are against some extremely good teams. First the Carolina Hurricanes who are one point away from getting home ice throughout the playoffs. You know they will be going all out. Then the Montreal Canadians who sit atop the Atlantic division tied with the Buffalo Sabres with 106 points. You know they will be going all out as well.
In my last blog I wrote how I didn’t want the Flyers getting in the playoffs because I thought it would hurt the “Rebuild” with a false sense of security. As I looked over the 2025-26 season they had some rough patches but once they found their identity they were such a better team. Incorporate the youth that has turned it around since the All-Star game and the solid goaltending they have with Vladar. This team actually is better than I thought and perhaps have jumped over the hurdle of a “rebuild” to a “reborned” team. I am still hesitant but I am starting to get the itch.
Personally I think it comes down to the Montreal game. The Capitals look solid down the stretch and you can never count out Ovechkin. The conspiracy theory person in me thinks the NHL would rather have Penguins vs Capitals then Penguins vs Flyers. Either way I am happy for the long suffering Flyers fans who have awoken again to a great few days of meaningful hockey. Lets hope it continues for a few more weeks!
Now on to some points;
- Does anyone besides me think the 76ers are a better team when Maxey is the true #1. I know he can go through some tough spells but when its going for him, he is one of the best in the league and the team just follows him. I think they win the playin Wednesday night against the Magic and give Boston a true test. They were 2-2 against them during the season. If they can steal one game in Boston, I think they may have a shot.
- Does anyone else see the writing on the wall in the Phillies firing their manager in the next few weeks if all continues. There is no discipline, the bats are quiet as feared and the miscues are happening nightly. Yet, Rob Thompson just keeps praising his guys through the mistakes and hopes for the best. Imagine if Nick Sirianni coached like Topper, whew how ugly would that be. Come on fans we have to hold him accountable. He has poorly managed this team since the NLCS against Arizona. Its long overdue!
- Notice how all the AJ brown talk has literally stopped since the Vrabel Russini gate. Yet, no national media coverage on this at all. ESPN spent an entire episode of SportsCenter on the Coldplay couple. Yet not one mention of Vrabel and Russini. From reading X, I am happy the fans are not letting this go. Russini on leave, Vrabel cancelling his predraft new conference. NFL you need to review this, like you reviewed the tush push last season. Don’t embarrass yourselves.
- Lastly I love that all the Hurts articles from a few weeks ago has backfired in the media. I love Saban and many HOF NFL players saying WTF to both articles and expressively stating how great Hurts is. He is not perfect but he is not horrible like many in the media try to make him be. Adam Shefter mentioned over the weekend on X – Burrow and Herbert signed their deals a few weeks after Hurts, yet why is no one in the NFL saying its their make it or break it year, and why haven’t their teams given them an extension. Please stop the hate on this man – all he does is win. He wins in life and in the game.
Do you have a point – please share in the comments, I would love to talk about it.
