Same Ole Phillies

We had an Eagles offense that looked lost last season. We have a Sixers offense that is hit or miss. Although that’s not the norm for those franchises, what has become the norm is the Phillies offense struggles. Add that to the poor pitching and poor defense, and we are one of the worst teams in MLB.

I always get confused about how everyone in the world sees something, but the organization doesn’t.  We all saw this coming. We’ve seen this coming since the NLCS versus Arizona. It’s the same team with the same problems.

Players on the team look lost. Swinging at bad pitches forcing something to happen. Defensively, they just aren’t playing solid fundamental baseball. Optioning Otto Kemp should help with that.

My worry about this team. With all that is being said. I’m afraid they just got old at the same time. Baseball old age happens quickly. The bat speed is a bit slower. Your velocity is a bit slower, and the player knows it. They realize what’s happening, and they try to adjust. That adjustment changes everything they have done with their mechanics over their career and boom. They just aren’t the same player.

Will a change in leadership do anything? I doubt it. Someone will get the blame. The manager, maybe the hitting coach, but it’s not the situation that is causing these losses. It’s the play on the field.

It’s early, and the division is awful, but changes have to happen soon. A new energy is needed. A different approach of playing small ball instead of trying to win it with one swing or one pitch. Again, it’s not just in the batters box. The pitching has been mediocre at best.

The pitching staff was supposed to be one of the better ones in MLB. Instead, they are all struggling to find their role. Whose the stop gap on this staff? Wheeler is still not ready, and you can’t force that on him after all he has been through. Sanchez, Luzardo needs to find some consistency fast.

So average pitching, below average defense, and horrible offense leads to a very long and disappointing summer.
