I always say that there is a window in the Baseball right after the NBA and NHL and Just before NFL training camp where they can steal all the attention from the fans. We are in that small window as of now. The Philles are 6.5 games behind Atlanta for the NJ East lead and are 2 games up in the Wildcard. This past weekend winning the series against the Mets has opened some eyes.
Eyes open because the Phillies did something they haven’t done in a awhile – SCORE RUNS! Obviously, Schwarber power numbers are nuts, he has 29 HR as I am writing this, and Harper woke up from his minor slump, a triple short from hitting the cycle in two straight games. Marsh keeps hitting well, Bohm has turned around, Turner is too good not to be able to figure it out. The Pitching is off the charts as well with Sanchez, Wheeler and Luzardo in the mix. All this is great, but we Phillies fans always so one thing to all this.
Can they do it in October?
I honestly don’t know. I say no, but I leave a small opening to yes. Only because in those years that the bats went quiet, it was the main bats that just shut off. The rest of the team couldn’t hit all year. That’s what is different about this team. Yeah, the big three got hot and cold but the secondary guys are playing well all year and have found their groove.
The team has dug themselves out of their rough start and have the second-best record in all of MLB since the managerial change. This year is mirroring 2022. However, this team is better at this point of the season than that team and experience matters in this context.
Look they beat up on the bad teams which they should, and they have held their own against the good teams. My test will be July 20th to 26th. That’s when the Dodgers and Yankees are in town. Before that they have series with the Nationals, Mets, Royals, Tigers, Pirates and Reds – not any goliaths by any means. If they can win most of those series, they should be neck and neck with the Braves for the division lead when the Dodgers come to town.
That week will essentially show us if this team is different? They can either win us for the rest of the season and gain our focus away from Eagles training camp or loose us entirely to the new offensive schemed Eagles.
I’m on the fence? You?
